6-8 mos: mouths gums solid foods, takes off hat, beginning of finger
feeding, begin offering cereal food, begin baby foods
8-11 mos: tips bottle to drink, pulls off socks, add strained meats or
finely chopped meats to diet
12-14 mos: finger feeds self part of meal, holds sippy cup by
themselves, removes mittens, spoon to mouth but not with food on it,
unsnaps front snaps, wean baby off of bottle onto cup
15-17 mos: begins to use spoon for feeding but will have spillage
18-20 mos: lifts foot for putting on and off shoes/pants, unties shoe-
single bow
20-22 mos: drinks from open cup with 2 hands and replaces cup back on
table by themselves, holds out hands to be washed
22-24 mos: puts on hat - maybe backwards, attempts to blow nose
24-26 mos: unwraps food, open jars, uses spoon by themselves, pushes
pants down, puts head through hole of shirt, tries to put on pants but
will put 2 feet in one hole, tries to help wash/ bathe self, brushes
teeth not thorough, assists with clothing management for toileting
26-28 mos: puts on coat with help for fasteners, zips and unzips lock

28-30 mos: pulls up pants with help, combs hair with supervision
30-32 mos: undresses self with slight assistance, pours drinks from a
small pitcher, begins to use fork, buttons one large front button
32-34 mos: puts on socks, turns faucet on and off
34-36 mos: puts on pullover shirt garment, unsnaps back snaps,
unbuttons most side and front buttons
36-42 mos: uses fork, obtains drink from tap water, drinks from cup
with one hand, sets table, wipes up spills, puts on shoes- maybe on
wrong feet, puts on pants with cues for front and back, dries hands
after washing by themselves, bathes body well with supervision, brushes
teeth thorough, manages clothes before and after toileting, tries to
wipe self after toileting, manages toilet seat, paper and flushes
42-48 mos: puts on open front shirt by themselves , unbuckles belt or
shoe, opens front separating zipper, buttons series of three buttons,
washes hands without supervision
48-54 mos: uses napkin, can perform velcro straps on shoes by
themselves, distinguishes front/back/inside out for dressing, laces
shoes, buckles belt and inserts in loops
54-62 (60 mos): fixes dry cereal, uses knife to spread foods, puts
shoes on by themselves, zips front separating zipper, opens back zipper,
blows and wipes own nose alone without request from parent
62-68 mos: washes face and dries, wipes self thoroughly after toileting
68-74 mos: ties bow on shoes, zips, unzips, hooks, unhooks, separating
zipper, washes hands at appropriate times
